A maker since childhood, I began focusing upon clay in the late ’70’s. After 10 years in my studio, I started teaching at the Burnaby Arts Centre (now the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts). By 1990 I’d entered arts administration there as Ceramic Arts Programmer – where I remained until my retirement in 2017. Throughout, I’ve maintained my connection to sculpture (often combining it with techniques such as wheel throwing and extruding), firing work in gas, wood or soda. I am influenced by nature, children’s literature and the numerous renowned artists I have met throughout my decades at the Shadbolt Centre.
