Artist Statement
Laurent Maynard is a colour-blind French sculptor and painter based in Vancouver.
Since 2013 he has been working in Visual Effects for many movies such as Star Wars, Jungle Book, and Guardians of the Galaxy. He studied at a 3D Cinema Animation School in France. It helped him to understand how to create a picture, how lighting and shading work in real life and also to improve his drawing skills.
He loves to make soapstone sculptures in his studio where he can make a lot of dust and noise!
Sculpture is a way for him to express himself about the problems of our society. Laurent’s series of sculptures will hopefully bring awareness and give everybody the same chances in life, help the environment, fight racism and live all together in harmony.
