Alumni of the Sculptors' Society of British Columbia bestow their legacies of monumental sculpture created through time. History is captured in these works that highlight a half-century of public art. Although work created by the sculptors of the Sculptors' Society of British Columbia, can be found throughout the world, this presentation emphasizes monumental sculpture unique to British Columbia. |
| The Sculptors Society of British Columbia presents an historical journey of monumental sculpture utilizing photographs, maquettes, drawings, works in progress and tools. Work from artists such as David Marshall, Geert Maas, Bruce Voyce, Alex Schick and others decorate our landscape throughout the lower mainland and the interior of British Columbia. The public will have an opportunity to discover the artist who is responsible for monumental sculptures that are found in many neighbourhoods and pieces that join with nature in many regional parks and cities. The public will also have an opportunity to discover that members of the Sculptors' Society of British Columbia created many of the monumental sculptures seen throoughout British Columbia. Complimenting "Legacies Through Time" will be an exhibition of recent works of tangible texture and multi-media. Upon the public viewing this exhibition, it will be apparent that sculpture can either be scaled up or scaled down by working with maquettes and modern technology. |

"Courting Sculpture" was held at the West Vancouver Memorial Library from July 29 through Aug. 31 with a reception on August 5, 2005. "Courting Sculpture" located in the original garden courtyard of the library is a summer activity not to be missed. The Sculptors' Society of British Columbia's inaugural exhibit parallels the celebrations happening during the Harmony Arts Festival. Sculptors represented over the 50 years that the Sculptors' Society of British Columbia has existed includes work done in bronze, wood, stone and other materials by artists from the lower mainland, the interior and beyond. The West Van Memorial Library is pleased to give expression to the notion that art, architecture, library resources and nature work in harmony. Ultimately, sitting in an intimate courtyard, surrounded by nature and sculpture is a charming environment for reading a book and having a good cup of Murchies. |
